SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT

1. Waste Collection: 

• Residential Collection: Regular pick-up of household waste from homes and apartments. This often involves providing bins or bags and adhering to scheduled collection days.
• Commercial & Industrial Collection: Tailored collection services for businesses, offices, restaurants, schools, shopping malls, factories, and other institutions. This can involve various sizes of bins (dumpsters) and customized collection frequencies.
• Bulky Waste Collection: Special services for large, cumbersome items that don’t fit in regular bins, such as furniture, appliances, and construction debris.

2. Waste Transportation: Transporting collected waste from collection points to sorting facilities, transfer stations, recycling centers, composting plants, or disposal sites (landfills, incinerators).

3. Waste Sorting and Segregation:

• Source Separation Support: Advising and assisting clients (residential and commercial) in separating waste at the source into different categories (e.g., organic, recyclables, general waste). This is crucial for efficient recycling.

• Material Recovery Facilities (MRFs): Operating facilities where mixed waste is sorted, often mechanically and manually, to separate recyclable materials like paper, cardboard, plastics, glass, and metals.

4. Waste Treatment and Disposal:

• Recycling Services: Processing collected recyclables into raw materials for new products. This can involve crushing glass, shredding paper, baling plastics, and melting metals. Some companies have their recycling plants (e.g., for plastics or organic waste), while others partner with specialized recyclers.

• Composting: Processing organic waste (food scraps, garden waste) into nutrient-rich compost for agricultural or landscaping use.

   

• Landfilling: Disposing of non-recyclable and non-compostable waste in engineered landfills designed to minimize environmental impact.

   

• Incineration (Waste-to-Energy): Burning waste at high temperatures to reduce its volume and, in some cases, generate electricity or heat. This is often used for specific waste types or in areas with limited landfill space.

   

• Hazardous Waste Management: Specialized handling, collection, treatment, and disposal of hazardous materials (e.g., chemicals, medical waste, electronic waste, expired pharmaceuticals). This requires strict adherence to regulatory standards (like NEMA in Kenya) to prevent environmental and health risks.

• Analyzing a client’s waste generation patterns, identifying opportunities for waste reduction, recycling, and cost savings. This can help businesses improve their environmental footprint and comply with regulations.

   

• Developing customized waste management plans for various clients.

6. Sanitary Bin Services:

• Providing and servicing sanitary bins for washroom cubicles in commercial and institutional settings, ensuring hygienic disposal of sensitive waste.

7. Environmental Compliance and Reporting:

• Assisting clients in meeting national and local environmental regulations (e.g., NEMA requirements in Kenya).

• Providing data reports on waste generation, recycling rates, and CO2 emission reductions to help clients track their environmental performance.

8. Product Destruction and Confidential Shredding:

Secure destruction of products, confidential documents, or sensitive materials to protect brand reputation or comply with data privacy regulations.

9. Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) Support:

• Helping businesses develop and implement take-back systems and comply with EPR requirements, where producers are responsible for the entire lifecycle of their products, including post-consumer recycling and disposal.
